42 Best (And 1 WTF) New Android Games From The Last 2 Weeks (6/11/13 - 6/24/13) Part 2

Beejumbled

There's a spelling bee joke in here somewhere, but I just can't find it. Mega-publisher 2K Games is stepping down a bit for a Boggle-type word game, where the object is to create words from jumbled up letters in a honeycomb. Different characters (mostly just bees in stereotypical costumes) can grant bonuses that are sort of like Scrabble squares, but more specific. Check the video for some so-bad-it's-good entertainment.
--
Bee fast, Bee accurate and Bee ready to swiftly construct words when the clock starts. Word enthusiasts will buzz about this fast-paced word jumble where the challenge is to score big by creating words, words, and more words. Get Slick and earn an extra 50 points for playing words with “ick” in them and don’t get stung by the competition when your opponent unlocks Tiki bee-cause the letter “K” is worth double points.

Shelter

I've made my feelings on zombie games well-known in the past, but novelty and innovation will get you a spot on this list, even if you insist on throwing in the undead. Part panel-flipping comic book, part tower defense, part card battle game, Shelter follows the story of a group of zombie apocalypse survivors as they try to make it to safety. The hand-drawn visuals are particularly appealing.
--
Shelter is an exciting new zombie card-dueling game. Playing like a hybrid of a collectible card game and the castle defense genre, Shelter will provide you with hours of challenging play. Defend yourself from the zombie onslaught as you fight to be reunited with the woman you love. You define your strategy, but be warned... You'll need to adapt to survive.

Roundhouse

Inspired by over-the-top 2D brawlers from the 90s (which were themselves inspired by over-the-top action movies from the 80s), Roundhouse is here to kick ass and chew bubblegum. And they didn't have its favorite kind of bubblegum at 7-11, and no one in the restaurant would share, and it's just had a bad day, alright? The game's unapologetic devotion to old-school style extends to the on-screen controls, which faithfully mimic the dingy arcade cabinets of your childhood. The full game is a buck, with a free version available as well.
--
Roundhouse is a 2D-Physics action game that takes you, the world's toughest rock star, to Hell and back. Inspired by old school arcade brawlers, Roundhouse is easy to learn and difficult to master. Perform furious feet-flyin' combos as you fight your way through many unique stages, each with challenging bosses that will put your thumbs to the test. Develop the foot fetish you never knew you had; no shame required.

Gear Jack

Someone made an endless runner starring Marvin the Paranoid Android from the Hitchhiker's movie? Take my money. Gear Jack is a pretty basic runner/platformer, but at least it tries for some unique twists with the 2D visuals, and your robotic runner can perform parkour tricks as he jogs along. Jack is upgradeable, and after you beat the initial 30 levels, there is an auto-generated mode for more replay.
--
Help Jack escaping from the W.Hale, the first fully automated starship created by the humans, that was hit by a huge electromagnetic shockwave and that is now slowly floating toward a black hole! The entire robotic crew has gone crazy, and Jack is the only one that can save the ship from being destroyed! But it will not be easy!

Dark Nebula HD

Dark Nebula is, at its core, a marble game - you know, like the ones you used to play in the backseat on car trips, and lost every time your parent hit a pothole. In the digital age things get a little more complicated, with a wide selection of levels filled with levers, traps, spikes, spikey levers, and all sorts of other rolling accoutrements. The game is compatible with the Sphero toy/controller, if you happen to have one rolling around.
--
For the first time in stunning HD graphics! Revisit the original 11 levels in super crisp quality AND enjoy 12 new extra levels, never released before! Dark Nebula is a labyrinth game on steroids. Just tilt the device to move your character through the levels while avoiding traps, opening doors, bouncing and sliding all the way to the finish line.
  • 11 original levels + 12 brand new extra levels!

  • Cinematic musical score!

BitBattle

Normally we'd overlook a game that panders pretty hard to the bits and chips crowd, but this free strategy game has no ads or IAP, so it gets a pass. BitBattle has cops versus rebels, among other urban warfare factions, in a tiered defense game that plays a lot like Plants vs. Zombies. The art is cute, if that's your thing, but the relatively huge install size is a bit off-putting.
--
BitBattle is a simple retro-styled, multi-themed, fast-paced arcade game. Pick among the 2 + 6 unlockable armies composed each one of 5 unique units and conquer the battlefield to defeat your enemy.100% free, guaranteed: no ads, no trick, a full game for you. Featuring 12 wonderful chiptune songs made by collaborators. Oh! and 2 players mode in the same device!

Bam fu

Bam fu is sort of a digital version of the old Hungry Hungry Hippos board game. Two, three, or four local players try to rapidly tap on a field of circles, switching them to their personal color. The person with the most circles when the time is up wins. The game's intention is to foster an atmosphere where the players are almost fighting in the real world - like Twister, with less groping and more punching. The 2D graphics are pretty good, and the design of the playing field itself is surprisingly functional.
--
HANDS CLASH IN CHAOS in Bam fu, a game for two-, three- or four people on one device. Everyone is fighting over the same pebbles. Physical contact is totally part of this game. Each player fights for her own color. Pebbles loop through the colors of the players when you tap them. Make the majority of the pebbles your color and win the round. Win five rounds and you’ve secured your victory. Be super quick. Block arms, push hands and squeeze fingers. Act like a kung-fu master. Protect your pebbles from being snatched. Play against slow people. (Works every time!)

Fireball SE

Fireball SE is sort of like a dual-stick shooter... without the shooting. And just one joystick. The object is to guide your ball of light across the playing field and avoid the amorphous blobs chasing it, Asteroids-style. At the right moment, you can activate bombs to clear them away, racking up combos and giving yourself a bit of non-breathing room. The standard countdown and survival modes are present, and graphics look pretty smooth, albeit on the simple side.
--
Smooth Controls, Explosive Action, and Thrilling Escapes. Fireball: Special Edition is an addictive and challenging, arcade survival game. Dodge swarms of enemies and lead them to their destruction across 3 modes and 2 difficulty levels. Use Meltdown mode to slow down the action and escape from certain death. In Waves mode, play through 8 consecutive waves of increasing size and speed. In Countdown mode, play 5 unique stages of 3 minutes each and try to score as high as you can with massive combos. In Survival mode, play 5 more stages where the goal is to stay alive as long as possible.

Asteroid Impacts

Not to be confused with the classic Asteroids, this game lets you guide heavenly bodies across a 2D Tron-style sky. The object is to smash apart small planetoids with mathematical precision, using gravitational forces and vectors to guide your asteroids' path. The Tron inspiration doesn't stop at the visuals; the music is decidedly electronic and low-key, placing this simple game loosely in the "zen" genre.
--
Use your dexterity and wits to guide various types of asteroids on their journey through outer space. Become the center of gravity and lead them to their ultimate goal – a planet’s core. Stand up to the film and game industry that tells you to fight alien invaders and help them instead. Find out what happens if some asteroids actually reach their targets. One outcome that is to be expected: a good time for you.

Emancy: Borderline War

Mix Risk with a top-down shooter or action dungeon crawler, and you'd get something like Emancy. While the story and visuals behind this strategy game aren't anything to write home about, the action is fluid, and the ability to control your assigned soldiers directly in battle is interesting. This game drives the free-to-play angle pretty hard, so be ready for some significant in-app purchases.
--
Emancy: Borderline War combines massive battle action and strategy in an unprecedented way. You are controlling the best soldier of your army in battles. But you have no superpowers - your soldier may get killed like any other. This is a game of skill and tactics. Win the battle by defeating enemy army in action and win the war by commanding your armies with a strong strategy. Game is easy to play and you'll learn how to control your player in a few minutes using swipe gestures to move and tap to shoot. Dual stick controls also supported.

Pipe Trouble

Snake and oil land controversy: two great tastes that taste great together. I'll give the developer of Pipe Trouble points for originality and style, if not tact - both the file name and the screenshots for Pipe Trouble come from the iPad version of the game. The goal is to build an oil pipeline that mixes efficiency with safety. Build too close to fields or forests, and leaks or protestors could sink your entire project. But build around them, and your investors will get angry at the increased cost. Pixel art fans should get a kick out of the visuals.
--
PIPE TROUBLE takes a clever new spin on an old arcade classic and puts players in the middle of Big Oil & Gas. In this over-the-top satire you're tasked with building your own pipeline, and trying to balance the financial demands of using the least pipe to make the most money against the impact on the local environment and neighboring farms.

Flying Fox

Flying foxes have a rich tradition in gaming history - just ask Miles "Tails" Prower. This one's invention is mothered by necessity: he's created a crude flying machine for the purpose of stealing some Kentucky Not-So Fried Chicken. Guide the fox through 2D stages in a combination of platform games and physics puzzles, using various environmental quirks to get to your fowl quarry. Here's the international version.
--
Play as the inventive—and very hungry—black fox as you attempt to plunder the farm of all it's chicken-y goodness. Fly around each stage and pluck the chickens up by swooping down from above. Use your head to get to those hard to reach hens and beat the timer.
  • Unique gameplay, swoop down from above and steal the chickens away.
  • Puzzling levels with a ton of variety.
  • Use objects like bowling balls to smash barriers and get those chickens.
  • Beat the time limit and show off your score online.

Kyubo

Imagine Tetris as a platforming game, complete with falling blocks and a bit of twitch timing. Add a little indie artistry and a lot of levels, and you've got Kyubo. The blocks that make up the levels of the game have a startling amount of variety, and while there's not a lot of visual flair, it should be plenty of gaming content for fans of either platformers or puzzle titles.
--
You find yourself trapped in a dungeon room, you don't remember how you got there or who tied you to that chain. Luckily that somebody forgot (?) the key right there so you can set yourself free. Free? Will you be able to find your way out of this odd place you've never seen before? All you got is yourself and some old spirits with their magic powers to help you out in the escape. Be ready to deal with mind twisting puzzles, deadly traps and the truth about this place during your getaway.

Fatty

Fatty is like Kirby, plus a cynical attitude towards obesity. Your little girl character rides on Fatty, an amorphous blob whose only wish is to eat more and more junk food. Bounce, fly, roll, and defecate rainbows as you navigate through the levels, racking up Weight Watchers points like mad and avoiding healthy food at all costs.
--
Fatty is a simple little game about a stupid fat blob and his bouncing misadventures! Guide Fatty as he eats, crushes and bounds his way over countless hills and through countless obstacles. Be careful to avoid nasty healthy food, poison clouds and diet pill-wielding gym losers who want nothing more than to stop Fatty’s weight-gain. But Fatty cannot be stopped.

Tap Rocket

Someone's been listening to too much Pink Floyd. In this monochromatic endless runner, your character flies across the dark side of the moon. The unique part is the zero G aspect: the runner can only gain forward momentum via his jetpack, collecting coins and avoiding obstacles. It's a lot like Jetpack Joyride, with a bigger playing field and more platforming elements.
--
Run, jump and take flight in this unique zero-g runner! Avoid falling into the abyss, and watch out for fuel-hungry UFOs, falling asteroids and shaky ground. The farther you run, the faster it goes. Collect power-ups to fly farther, and compete against your friends for the high score.
  • Frantic and addictive action gameplay!
  • Simple one-touch control.
  • Collectible power-ups to fly farther and increase your score.
  • Unique silhouette graphics with jet-powered colors.
  • Catchy music and sound effects.
  • Leaderboards and achievements.

WTF Game(s) Of The Week

Stay Mayor

In a fine example of art following life, this endless runner is a tongue-in-cheek account of Toronto mayor Rob Ford's scandalous crack cocaine video saga. In case you don't keep up with Canadian politics, the public figure was accused of smoking crack on video in May, and Gawker (everyone's favorite bastion of journalistic integrity) offered to buy the video for $200,000. In the game, you play as the nameless Mayor running away from the media, trying to collect cash and buy the video himself. The game's not that great, but the description below is.
--
Uh oh. Looks like the Mayor’s in a buttload of friggin’ trouble with that alleged video of him smoking crack! And who knows if it even exists, amiright? But juuust in case, why don’t you help him collect a heap of cash to buy it before The Gawker does. Only your twinkle toes can out-maneuver the Blood Thirsty Media to help him collect more than they did in that damn “Crackstarter” campaign. $201,255 to be exact. And hey, everyone needs a little boost now and then, so make sure you collect power up buckets of deep-fried courage for more footballs to throw at life’s problems... but make sure you avoid those pesky crackpipes!
Good luck trying to Stay Mayor! Go git em! PS: Don’t smoke crack.
  • Heartbreakingly stunning 2D graphics
  • Fun and easy to play
  • Music by award winning composer Sam Allison
  • Made by the same team that brought you the Ikea Monkey Game!
  • Finally get a bit of control down at city hall using ONLY YOUR THUMB!
  • Helps numb the pain
  • Fun and easy to play again
  • Almost as funny as Toronto news stories
  • No where near as funny as commenters on Toronto news stories
  • Who are we kidding, this isn’t funny. The city’s management is in shambles and Toronto is a hyper polarized electorate with no hope for change in the next 18 months.
