There's
a spelling bee joke in here somewhere, but I just can't find it.
Mega-publisher 2K Games is stepping down a bit for a Boggle-type word
game, where the object is to create words from jumbled up letters in a
honeycomb. Different characters (mostly just bees in stereotypical
costumes) can grant bonuses that are sort of like Scrabble squares, but
more specific. Check the video for some so-bad-it's-good entertainment.

Shelter
I've made my feelings on zombie games well-known in the past, but
novelty and innovation will get you a spot on this list, even if you
insist on throwing in the undead. Part panel-flipping comic book, part
tower defense, part card battle game, Shelter follows the story of a
group of zombie apocalypse survivors as they try to make it to safety.
The hand-drawn visuals are particularly appealing.

its favorite kind of bubblegum at 7-11, and no one in the restaurant
would share, and it's just had a bad day, alright? The game's
unapologetic devotion to old-school style extends to the on-screen
controls, which faithfully mimic the dingy arcade cabinets of your
childhood. The full game is a buck,
with a free version available as well.

Gear Jack

Gear Jack is a pretty basic runner/platformer, but at least it tries
for some unique twists with the 2D visuals, and your robotic runner can
perform parkour tricks as he jogs along. Jack is upgradeable, and after
you beat the initial 30 levels, there is an auto-generated mode for more
replay.

Dark Nebula is, at its core, a marble game - you know, like the ones
you used to play in the backseat on car trips, and lost every time your

spikes, spikey levers, and all sorts of other rolling accoutrements. The
game is compatible with the Sphero toy/controller, if you happen to
have one rolling around.

BitBattle
Normally we'd overlook a game that panders pretty hard to the bits
and chips crowd, but this free strategy game has no ads or IAP, so it
gets a pass. BitBattle has cops versus rebels, among other urban warfare
factions, in a tiered defense game that plays a lot like Plants vs.
Zombies. The art is cute, if that's your thing, but the relatively huge
install size is a bit off-putting.

Bam fu
Bam fu is sort of a digital version of the old Hungry Hungry Hippos
board game. Two, three, or four local players try to rapidly tap on a
field of circles, switching them to their personal color. The person
with the most circles when the time is up wins. The game's intention is
to foster an atmosphere where the players are almost fighting in the
real world - like Twister, with less groping and more punching. The 2D
graphics are pretty good, and the design of the playing field itself is
surprisingly functional.

Physical contact is totally part of this game. Each player fights for
her own color. Pebbles loop through the colors of the players when you
tap them. Make the majority of the pebbles your color and win the round.

Fireball SE
Fireball SE is sort of like a dual-stick shooter... without the
shooting. And just one joystick. The object is to guide your ball of
light across the playing field and avoid the amorphous blobs chasing it,
Asteroids-style. At the right moment, you can activate bombs to clear
them away, racking up combos and giving yourself a bit of non-breathing
room. The standard countdown and survival modes are present, and
graphics look pretty smooth, albeit on the simple side.

Asteroid Impacts
Not to be confused with the classic Asteroids, this game lets you
guide heavenly bodies across a 2D Tron-style sky. The object is to smash
apart small planetoids with mathematical precision, using gravitational
forces and vectors to guide your asteroids' path. The Tron inspiration
doesn't stop at the visuals; the music is decidedly electronic and
low-key, placing this simple game loosely in the "zen" genre.

strategy game aren't anything to write home about, the action is fluid,
and the ability to control your assigned soldiers directly in battle is
interesting. This game drives the free-to-play angle pretty hard, so be
ready for some significant in-app purchases.

Pipe Trouble
Snake and oil land controversy: two great tastes that taste great
together. I'll give the developer of Pipe Trouble points for originality
and style, if not tact - both the file name and the screenshots for
Pipe Trouble come from the iPad version of the game. The goal is to
build an oil pipeline that mixes efficiency with safety. Build too close
to fields or forests, and leaks or protestors could sink your entire
project. But build around them, and your investors will get angry at the
increased cost. Pixel art fans should get a kick out of the visuals.

PIPE TROUBLE takes a clever new spin on an old arcade classic and
puts players in the middle of Big Oil & Gas. In this over-the-top
satire you're tasked with building your own pipeline, and trying to
balance the financial demands of using the least pipe to make the most
money against the impact on the local environment and neighboring farms.

Flying Fox
Flying foxes have a rich tradition in gaming history - just ask Miles
"Tails" Prower. This one's invention is mothered by necessity: he's
created a crude flying machine for the purpose of stealing some Kentucky
Not-So Fried Chicken. Guide the fox through 2D stages in a combination
of platform games and physics puzzles, using various environmental
quirks to get to your fowl quarry.

Fatty
Fatty is like Kirby, plus a cynical attitude towards obesity. Your
little girl character rides on Fatty, an amorphous blob whose only wish
is to eat more and more junk food. Bounce, fly, roll, and defecate
rainbows as you navigate through the levels, racking up Weight Watchers
points like mad and avoiding healthy food at all costs.

Someone's been listening to too much Pink Floyd. In this
monochromatic endless runner, your character flies across the dark side
of the moon. The unique part is the zero G aspect: the runner can only
gain forward momentum via his jetpack, collecting coins and avoiding
obstacles. It's a lot like Jetpack Joyride, with a bigger playing field
and more platforming elements.

Stay Mayor
In a fine example of art following life, this endless runner is a
tongue-in-cheek account of Toronto mayor Rob Ford's scandalous crack
cocaine video saga. In case you don't keep up with Canadian politics,
the public figure was
accused of smoking crack on video in May,
and Gawker (everyone's favorite bastion of journalistic integrity)
offered to buy the video for $200,000. In the game, you play as the
nameless Mayor running away from the media, trying to collect cash and
buy the video himself. The game's not that great, but the description
below is.

that alleged video of him smoking crack! And who knows if it even
exists, amiright? But juuust in case, why don’t you help him collect a
heap of cash to buy it before The Gawker does. Only your twinkle toes
